# Billing FAQ

> Answers about usage, upgrading, downgrading, cancelling, invoices and payments.

Plan numbers live on [Pricing](/billing/pricing#plans), and every limit you can reach is on [Limits and quotas](/limits). This page answers the questions that come after you have chosen a plan.

<AccordionGroup>
  <Accordion title="Where do I see how much I have used?">
    In the sidebar, under **Settings**, open **Plan and usage**. The header shows the current period, for example "Current period: Oct 1 to Oct 31". The **Usage** section has a row each for **Analysed calls**, **Agents**, **Copilot messages** and **Simulated test calls**, each as a count against your limit. The bar changes colour at 80% of the limit and again when it is full. **What each plan includes** lists the plans side by side, with seats. The sidebar also shows your plan and calls used, such as "1,200 of 1,500 calls", and links to the page.

    Calls, messages and test calls reset on the date the page shows. Agents are the number in your workspace now and do not reset. When analysed calls run low, a line under the top of the app says so, with a link to the page.
  </Accordion>

  <Accordion title="What counts toward the allowance?">
    A call counts once, when Signal takes it for analysis. A call over 10 minutes counts once per 10 minutes started. Analysing a call again never counts it again. The brief chat and the copilot share one copilot allowance. Copilot messages and simulated test calls do not use up analysed calls. [Pricing](/billing/pricing#what-counts-as-an-analysed-call) has the full rules and a worked example.
  </Accordion>

  <Accordion title="Will I be charged if I go over my allowance?">
    No. Signal has no overage charges. Calls past your analysed-call allowance are still imported and stored, and they wait unanalysed. They are analysed after you upgrade or when the period resets. Nothing is deleted. Copilot messages, simulated test calls and agents are different: they stop at the limit until you upgrade or the period resets.
  </Accordion>

  <Accordion title="How do I upgrade?">
    Open **Plan and usage** and select **Upgrade**. The page scrolls to **Change plan**, where you choose a plan and pay at checkout. When checkout finishes, the page updates without a reload, and calls that were waiting start to be analysed. You see the charge at checkout. A paid plan counts usage over its own billing period, which **Plan and usage** shows.

    You need an organization to buy a paid plan. In a personal workspace the page says "Paid plans belong to an organization" and offers **Create organization**.
  </Accordion>

  <Accordion title="How do I downgrade, and what happens to extra agents or seats?">
    Open **Plan and usage**, select **Manage subscription** and change to a smaller plan. Signal reads a downgrade as scheduled: your current plan's limits stay until the period you have paid for ends, then the smaller plan applies.

    * **Agents.** Signal does not delete or pause an agent because of a plan change. If you have more agents than the new plan includes, they keep working and their calls count against the one workspace allowance. You cannot connect another agent until you are back under the limit. An admin can delete an agent to make room: select **Delete agent** under **Connection** on its **Agent config** page.
    * **Seats.** Signal does not remove anyone from your organization when a plan changes.
  </Accordion>

  <Accordion title="How do I cancel?">
    Open **Plan and usage**, select **Manage subscription** and cancel. Your paid plan stays until the end of the period you have paid for. Until then the page shows **Cancels** and the date next to the plan name, with the note "Cancels on Nov 3. After that this workspace moves to Free." If you change your mind before that date, the same panel lets you resume.

    After the date the workspace is on Free limits. Free counts from the first of the calendar month, so calls analysed earlier that month on your paid plan count against Free's allowance. Calls past it are stored and wait unanalysed. Signal does not delete agents, calls or issues because you cancelled.

    Cancelling a plan is not the same as deleting your organization. Deleting the organization erases its data. See [Deleting data and retention](/data-and-security#deleting-data-and-retention).
  </Accordion>

  <Accordion title="What does the Free plan include?">
    The whole product, with smaller allowances. Every plan includes the board, flow, traces, versions, the REST API and the MCP server, and Free needs no card. The allowances are in the table on [Pricing](/billing/pricing#plans). They reset on the first of each month at 00:00 UTC. Free has no end date. A personal workspace is always on Free, because paid plans belong to an organization.
  </Accordion>

  <Accordion title="Is there a trial?">
    There is no trial period on the paid plans at launch. Free is the trial: the same product with smaller allowances, no card and no end date.
  </Accordion>

  <Accordion title="What payment methods can I use?">
    Payment is by card, through Stripe, in US dollars. No other currency or payment method is available at checkout.

    Some European cards that need 3D Secure can be declined, because the payment provider does not support it yet. If your card is declined, try a different card, or select **Contact us** for invoice billing. Enterprise is arranged with Signal directly and is not bought at checkout. Select **Contact us** in the Enterprise column of **Plan and usage**.
  </Accordion>

  <Accordion title="My payment failed. What happens?">
    The plan shows **Past due** and a note such as "Your last payment failed. Starter limits stay until Oct 9, then this workspace moves to Free." Your paid limits stay through a 7-day grace period. After that the workspace moves to Free limits. Nothing is deleted.

    Select **Update payment method** in the note to open the **Organization** page, where you can add a card.
  </Accordion>

  <Accordion title="Do you charge tax or VAT?">
    No. Billing does not add sales tax or VAT to the charge, and prices are in US dollars. The price you see at checkout is what you are charged. If you need a tax invoice, select **Contact us** on **Plan and usage**.
  </Accordion>

  <Accordion title="Where are my invoices and receipts?">
    Signal does not show invoices. Card payments go through Stripe, and card details are managed on the **Organization** page, which **Update payment method** opens. To reach it yourself, open the organization switcher at the top of the sidebar and choose to manage the organization. If you need an invoice or receipt you cannot find, select **Contact us** on **Plan and usage**.
  </Accordion>

  <Accordion title="How do I change the billing email?">
    Signal does not keep a billing email of its own. Billing belongs to your organization, so payer details are part of the organization's settings, not a setting inside Signal. Open them from the **Organization** page.
  </Accordion>

  <Accordion title="Why did the API or the MCP server return 402?">
    A run needed more simulated test calls than your plan has left this month. The response is HTTP 402 with the code `quota_exceeded`, and `error.quota` gives the `metric`, the `limit`, how much is `used`, the `plan` and the `upgradePath`. Upgrade your plan or wait for the period to reset, then retry. A 402 with the code `budget_exceeded` is a different limit: your key's monthly budget, the agent's test budget or the workspace's AI model allowance did not cover the request. See [Limits and quotas](/limits#plan-limit-errors).

    Calls past the analysed-call allowance do not cause a 402. They are stored and wait.
  </Accordion>

  <Accordion title="I need more agents, seats or calls than Scale includes">
    That is Enterprise. Signal sets its limits by hand for your volume. See [Pricing](/billing/pricing#enterprise).
  </Accordion>
